At Trident, the termite and wood-destroying organism (WDO) inspection is done in-house. It is performed through Trident Pest Control, our own licensed company, under California Structural Pest Control Board License #PR8662, and can be done on the same visit as your home inspection. There is no second company to schedule, no hand-off between firms, and one company answers for both reports.
That matters because a home inspection and a termite report are two different documents under two different sets of rules. A California termite report has to come from a company licensed by the Structural Pest Control Board. So when termite is offered alongside a home inspection, the useful question is simple: who is actually doing it?

Six questions to ask your inspector about termite
Whoever you hire, these are the questions that tell you how your termite inspection will actually be handled. Here is how Trident answers each one.
Who actually performs the termite inspection?
Ask for the name of the company that will sign the termite report, and whether it is the same company doing your home inspection. At Trident it is: Trident Pest Control, our own licensed company.
What license is the report issued under?
A California termite report is issued under a Structural Pest Control Board company registration that includes Branch 3, the class for wood-destroying organisms. Ask for the number and look it up. Ours is #PR8662, Branch 2 and Branch 3.
Is it the same visit?
Ask whether termite is done on the same appointment or booked separately around someone else's calendar. With Trident, the home and termite inspections can be done on one visit.
Who do I call about a finding?
A roof leak in the home inspection and dry rot in the termite report are often the same story. Ask who answers for both. With one company, it is one call.
Who reviews the termite report?
Ask who stands behind the termite report once it is written. With an in-house report, the company that inspected your home is the company accountable for it.
When will both reports be ready?
Ask when each report arrives relative to your contingency deadline. Booking both on one visit means both inspections can start on the same day.

The home inspection and the termite inspection look at the same house from two angles, and the findings overlap more than most buyers expect. A plumbing leak, a failed shower pan, wood touching soil, a gap in the roof flashing: each one can show up as a moisture note in one report and as damage or a conducive condition in the other.
